I am reminded of a quotation from Picasso, when someone asked him why he could feel good about charging thousands of dollars for a drawing that took him only a few minutes to complete. His answer was that he was being paid for decades of perfecting his skill, not just for the time to execute one task.
But perhaps more germane: Working long hours does not result in more pay, necessarily, unless you are an hourly worker but at some point the opposite kicks in (working shorter hours can result in lower pay).

You may have heard that job-hopping—consistently changing jobs every one or two years—doesn’t have the stigma that it once did, but that’s only partially true. While it’s accurate to say that it’s less common for people to stick with one employer for decades, that doesn’t mean it’s acceptable to switch jobs willy-nilly.
